Dixons Pennine Academy

Our academy day

The day at Dixons Pennine Academy begins at 8.35am. Students are allowed to enter the building from 8am.

A free breakfast is provided by the catering staff from 8am until 8.35am. Students should aim to arrive on site by 8.30am so they can be in their line ups at 8.35am.

In addition, the academy day ends at 3.05pm for all students.

Total Student Hours: 32.5 hours per week

Year 11 students are expected to attend Period 6 sessions (3:15pm–4:00pm). These sessions provide targeted teaching, intervention and structured revision to close knowledge gaps, strengthen exam skills and ensure every student is fully prepared to achieve success in their GCSE examinations.

During social times, students can purchase drinks and snacks from the canteen.

Most students choose to eat lunch in the Dining Room, although outdoor seating areas are also available.

A wide range of clubs, enrichment activities and intervention sessions take place after school. Students may also attend corrections after school, in line with our Behaviour Policy.

When travelling to and from the academy, students are expected to remember that they are ambassadors for our community. They should show respect for others and behave in a friendly, courteous and responsible manner at all times, whether walking or using public transport. Academy uniform should be worn correctly throughout the journey to and from school.

Students line up at the start of each day and at the end of every social time. This is an important part of our academy culture, ensuring students are calm, organised and ready to learn before making their way safely to lessons. In poor weather, students will move directly to their lessons.

Morning Meetings provide students with opportunities to recall and retrieve powerful knowledge across the English, Maths and Science curriculum. These sessions help students prepare for the day ahead and establish a positive mindset for learning.

Advisory sessions are timetabled throughout the week and include whole-year assemblies, guided reading, and dedicated time to reflect on attendance, personal development and the academy's weekly culture focus.
