Dixons Pennine Academy

Uniform

Our school uniform is an important part of our culture. It helps create a sense of belonging, equality and pride, while ensuring that all students are ready to learn and represent Dixons Pennine Academy positively both in school and in the local community.

We have worked hard to keep the cost of uniform as low as possible. Only a small number of items need to be purchased with the academy logo, while the majority of the uniform can be bought from any retailer.

Outdoor clothing

Outdoor coats may be worn to and from school but should be removed on arrival and stored in lockers during the school day.

Hair

Hair should be smart and appropriate for school.

Hairstyles or colours that are extreme or designed to attract attention are not permitted. Hair colours should remain within the natural hair colour spectrum. Bright, vivid or contrasting unnatural colours are not allowed.

Hair accessories should be simple and unobtrusive.

Long hair must be tied back where required for health and safety, including during PE, Science and Design Technology lessons.

Students who wear a head covering for religious or cultural reasons are welcome to do so. Head coverings should be plain black and worn safely so they do not present a risk during practical lessons or PE, where alternative arrangements may be required. If you have any questions about religious dress, please contact the academy and we will be happy to discuss individual circumstances.

Jewellery

To avoid loss or damage, we recommend that students do not bring valuable jewellery to school.

Students may wear:

  • One pair of small stud earrings (one in each ear lobe)
  • A watch

Smart watches, including Apple Watches and similar devices, are not permitted.

For health and safety reasons, earrings must be removed for PE lessons.

No other facial or body piercings are permitted.

Make-up

Students may wear a small amount of discreet, natural-looking foundation or concealer.

False eyelashes, acrylic or gel nails, nail extensions and other cosmetic enhancements are not permitted.

Eyebrows should remain natural in both shape and colour.

Students may be asked to remove excessive make-up before attending lessons.

Supporting our uniform expectations

We ask all students to wear their uniform correctly at all times, including when travelling to and from the academy. By doing so, they represent themselves, their families and our academy with pride.

We are grateful for the support of parents and carers in ensuring that students arrive each day wearing the correct uniform. If you are unsure whether an item is suitable, please contact us before purchasing it - we are always happy to help.

We also have a small supply of good-quality pre-loved uniform available. If this would be helpful for your family, please get in touch with the academy.
